Private Show Garage & Workshop

Client: Private
Location: Zollikon, Switzerland
Date: 2011

Designed as an extension to a neoclassical villa, this hybrid structure melds a sports car enthusiast’s desire to display his vehicles with the practical need to house the cars for everyday use. A linear curved concrete shell forms an elegant, defining boundary to the garden, while equally providing a protective roof over the collection. The material palette is functional, with the restrained color scheme keeping the focus squarely on the cars.

The pavilion seeks to create a form of ideal proportions as a showcase for the cars. Composed of four large, sliding glass doors, the facade facing the villa offers glimpses into the garage from both the house and the garden. Skylights over each parking space allow excellent natural light during the day, while punctual spotlights provide accent lighting at night. With the integration of the former garden house, the garage benefits from a small workshop as well as a lounge and screening room for guests.
