When approached to showcase our work for the Gwangju Design Biennale, Nau2 decided not to simply show our work on a wall, but to embody the integration of digital design across our working spectrum. As the convergence of software tools has blurred disciplines and computer-aided rapid prototyping given rise to new production techniques, Nau2’s members have become engaged in architecture, exhibition design, film and video game design. The growing prevalence of this multi-disciplinary approach is demonstrated by our exhibition sculpture, whose three media crystals cover our main areas of work: Cinematic Worlds, Built Worlds and Simulated Worlds.

The sculpture, first digitally modeled and then built from MDF using computer-controlled milling techniques, creates a compelling temporary architecture. Visitors engage with the sculpture, moving around the piece to view embedded flat screen monitors—some placed at eye level for adults, others for children. A fourth crystal projects a mix of images from all worlds, summarizing Nau2’s work for casual passersby.
